Annabelle was born in Burlington, Vermont, to a mother who might have told you they would become an artist. Annabelle, however, was not convinced. With interests pointing in many directions, a curiosity to explore their roots, and a desire for adventure, at 16 years old, Annabelle moved to Augsburg, Germany, where they lived and learned as a youth ambassador with the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange. After returning to the US, they enrolled in an Early College Program at Castleton University. In 2021, they transferred to Clark University, where they took their first sculpture course and began to understand that building objects has always been their way of expressing themselves. Upon completing their B.A. in Studio Arts and Entrepreneurship in December 2024, they returned to the Green Mountains of Vermont, where they continue to create and explore. Annabelle is currently working with wire and textiles to make large-scale installations and smaller works.
Statement.
I am profoundly dyslexic. I read slowly, and unfortunately, the world moves quickly. People are expected to keep up, running on treadmills at an unsustainable pace with too few water breaks. I believe that we need to slow down. This is the core of my artistic practice. When we take time to listen to each other and our environment, to connect, to engage, we heal. When I create objects, I fall into a meditative state, listening to my body and the materials work as one while responding to my environment on a micro and macro scale. This happens regardless of the material I work with, and I find myself exploring a wide variety of mediums. Right now, my primary focus is on understanding how the softness of fiber and the rigid yet flexible nature of wire work together. They strengthen each other within one cohesive piece. I am interested in exploring intersectionality and how multiple qualities come together to form a deep and complex whole. This is why I love interdisciplinary interactive art. I love to create objects that folks can explore with multiple senses, objects that can be engaged with.
