Splish splash in the tub with my sister, playing with rubber duckie pals. My mother washes my hair. Another day, she holds it back while I vomit. Years later, balancing on the slippery edge of that same tub to get a full view of my body in the mirror. Does my butt look good in these leggings? Do I have curves yet? Jumping off the ledge to cake my face with makeup. They’ll never call me “pizza face” again. Influenced by the “it girl”; trying to be her when I am them. The disembodiment of this struggle, not having the words or coping skills, I sit on the bathroom floor bleeding from my arms and hands and vagina. My fingers ache and yet I masturbate behind the only door that locks without questions. I think it’s my space until a sibling barges in. I forgot to lock the door. With haste and leisure people come in and out, trying to understand ourselves and our bodies.
Here and now there’s no need to rush, take your time, reflect and connect over the space where we transform through our most vulnerable moments.
The moments we don’t talk about.
